In the liner notes to this rather forgettable CD, producer George Butler
talks about the guitarist/leader's rapidly emerging musical personality and how obviously distinctive he has become. But if that is true, then why did Butler
with studio musicians who are programmed to play the most innocuous light funk rhythms imaginable? There are times throughout this rather dull session when Sills'
bluish style comes across as a likable descendant of Eric Gale
, but the annoying rhythms keep the music from ever getting a chance to breathe.
