Winners of the 2009 GMTV’s Number One Family -- a U.K. breakfast show competition -- Beardsmith are made up of Dad Neil Beardsmith, plus children Graham, Gary, Ged, Alice, and the youngest, Gil. Influenced by Queen, the Eagles, and the Jackson 5, the group beat out 90 other hopeful families and won over the GMTV audience along with judges Coleen and Bernie Nolan, both members of another famous U.K. family band, the Nolans. Upon winning the 2009 competition, Beardsmith signed with the Universal label and released their debut album, A Family Christmas, that same year.
