Public Urged to Use Caution Around Okanagan River
5/4/2012
Residents in the South Okanagan are being warned to take caution around Okanagan River because of high water levels.
The Okanagan River is known for it's deep banks and fast flowing current and requires heightened safety awareness.
It is recommend that adults keep a close eye on children and pets at all times when near the river and if going into the waters, they take precautionary safety measures such as wearing a life jacket.
Recent rains and warm temperatures combined with this year's snow pack melt have caused higher then normal runoff into the river from Okanagan Lake.
The high runoff trend is expected to continue for the next several weeks as warmer temperatures are expected.
Okanagan River flows between Okanagan Lake down to Osoyoos Lake and across the American border.
