Good news for Okanagan Mission Secondary.
The school has been approved by the Ministry of Education to add a new theaters onto their school plus the Board of Education has given the go-ahead to start fundraising for it.
OKM Principal Scott McLean says their current theater is just too small.
"We put on a number of productions these last few years that we've had to rent space for. I look at watching them rehearse in the drama room for the space that we have for performances. We have to have the doors open in the hallways to move kids around. It's not big enough."
McLean says interest in the visual and preforming arts courses has been growing for years.
"Oh yah. In the last four years it has skyrocketed. I don't have the exact numbers for who take preforming arts but I do know all arts and that would be called visual arts and preforming arts. We have 600 to over 1000 kids who are involved in it."
An "Official Gala Launch Event" will take place at the end of the month to discuss design and fundraising ideas.
It runs May 28th at OKM beginning at 7PM.
