A plan by the BC Liberals to help ease the burdon of student loans is being met with a lukewarm response by the students union at UBCO.
Executive Chair, Curtis Tse says the announcement made by Premier Christy Clark to lower interest rates and principal payments is all well and good and should go a long way in helping low income students.
Tse says they would prefer seeing something that would have a greater impact.
"Will it make a difference to the majority of our student population? I have to say no. The majority of our student population doesn't take out student loans. If I'm not mistaken, it's about 20 per cent of our students on campus that take out student loans."
Tse says they would prefer to see the province put more money towards student programming on campus.
