The National Director of the BC Taxpayers Federation says there is close to a billion dollars sitting in the MP Pension Fund and the government has to spend it.
Gregory Thomas says there are fewer than 1000 people that qualify for the pension, which is probably why outgoing Minister of International Co-operation, Bev Oda is getting $52,000 for eight years of service.
Thomas says the pension fund just continues to grow.
"Last week, June 30th, another $23-million taxpayer dollars went into that fund. MP's bill us 10.4% interest on the money in their fund, so it's growing leaps and bounds."
Thomas says the average new recepient of the Canadian Pension Plan pension gets $534.00 a month this year.
The average MP who retired last year gets $5970.00 a month.
