A 42 year old Kelowna man who tried to flee a roadside sobriety check over the weekend has landed himself in serious trouble with the law.
At around 1:40 am on Saturday, August 4th, officers with the Central Okanagan Traffic Service attempted to pull over the driver of a Ford Explorer during a roadblock at Abbott St. and Leon Avenue in the downtown area after noticing a strong odour of alcohol.
The driver of the truck sped off amongst hundreds of pedestrians, RCMP Constable Kris Clark says,"The downtown core was pretty flooded at that time with people that had exited from Centre of Gravity and the local bars, so that just made it that much more dangerous because there were so many people out and about."
Officers chased the driver on foot a couple of blocks, arrested him and transported him back to the RCMP detachment.
Craig Russell Thomas faces charges including Obstruction, Dangerous Driving, Failure or Refuse to Provide a Breath Sample and Failure to Comply with a Probation Order.
Mr. Thomas will appear in Court on August 20th, 2012.
